PARAPETS

Mediaeval buildings (and later ones) often had 'parapets' - where the wall was raised a little (or a lot) above the bottom of the roof to stop the rain getting in.
Canterbury has some fine examples!!

17 Orange Street - note that this is a brick front added to an original timber-framed building to make it look more modern. Very common in Canterbury.
